Information

General

Air Force ROTC is open to all students in any major pursuing a bachelor’s degree. Air Force ROTC is a three or four year-program; in addition, it is currently a requirement that students be in AFROTC for at least three years. Students pursuing a master or doctorate degree, or a student wanting to enter the program for only two years may be allowed entry on a case-by-case basis. Contact the detachment for more information.

Purpose

The mission of Air Force ROTC is to produce leaders for the United States Air Force and United States Space Force. We are looking for young men and women who are not afraid to step up and take charge. We are looking for the future warrior-leaders of the United States Air and Space Forces. Individuals who successfully complete either the three or four-year program will be commissioned as Second Lieutenants in the U. S. Air Force. Our objective is to recruit, select, educate and commission quality officer candidates.

Requirements for Admission

  1. Be of good moral character
  2. Be enrolled in the Aerospace class and Leadership Lab
  3. If you have a college CGPA, possess a college CGPA of 2.0 or better (no GPA requirement for students who have never attended college)
  4. Be accepted by the university as a regular full-time student

The Program

AFROTC is divided into two distinct categories –the General Military Course (GMC) and the Professional Officer Course (POC). Any university student may enroll in the GMC. Enrolling in the GMC incurs no military obligation unless on ROTC scholarship status. They may then compete for entry into the POC during their last two years of college. Selection into the POC is highly competitive and is based upon qualification after an Air Force medical examination, scores on the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT), grade-point average, physical fitness test, and success completion of Field Training.

Leadership Laboratory

In addition to academic training, enrollment in the corresponding Leadership Laboratory is open to students who are members of the Reserve Officer Training Corps or are eligible to pursue a commission. Leadership Laboratory consists of physical, military, and leadership training including the operation of the Cadet Wing. The Cadet Wing is comprised exclusively of cadets. All plans and programs are developed and executed by the Cadet Wing.

Field Training

All cadets must complete Field Training, which consists of academic work, orientation to the Air Force environment and traditional military training, in order to enter the POC. Field Training is a leadership evaluation, which normally occurs between a cadet’s sophomore and junior years. Cadets must compete to go to Field Training. If a cadet fails to compete for a Field Training slot, they may be asked by the detachment cadre to return the following year to compete again. Cadets may only compete twice for Field Training.

Requirements for Commission

Upon completion of the AFROTC Professional Officer Course and receipt of a baccalaureate degree, cadets are eligible for commission as Second Lieutenants in the United States Air Force or the United States Space Force.

Books and Uniforms

All military uniforms and textbooks required for AFROTC courses are furnished by AFROTC at no charge to the student.
